Join a collaborative team of hospitality pros who are dedicated to curating and delivering hotel experiences as unique as the city they call home. The Director of Sales and Marketing is responsible for achieving optimal occupancy growth in existing accounts and generating new business all to maximize total revenue and meet/exceed hotel profit objectives. In addition to being a proven salesperson, the DOSM must effectively manage, mentor, train, and inspire a results-driven team to succeed. They provide critical direction in determining sales strategies while aggressively pursuing and securing leisure/ transient and group business to maximize hotel revenue. This role will oversee the day-to-day operations of the hotel sales division including but not limited to direct sales efforts, strategic follow-up, sales administration, and ongoing training. They are responsible for developing the sales forecast for the annual budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES + AUTHORITIES:

  • Build strong relationships with colleagues, partners, clients, and outside vendors.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Achieve monthly top-line revenue goals and increase the hotel’s STAR market share.
  • Proactively sell the hotel through face-to-face appointments with customers, tele-prospecting, etc.
  • Leverage emerging tools and technology to prospect for new business.
  • Effectively utilize all systems to their maximum capacity including information input, reporting, understanding how all systems work together, and utilizing key data.
  • Evaluate potential business opportunities for the hotel and coordinate as necessary with the Managing Director and Director of Revenue.
  • Interview, hire, train, recommend performance evaluations, resolve problems, provide open communication, and recommend discipline and/or termination when appropriate. Use the PM Hotel Group efforts for all recruiting and onboarding activities.
  • Ensure training programs are conducted regularly and PM Hotel Group standards of performance are met. Give guidance and counsel staff toward improvement.
  • Compile and/or direct the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the sales department to include, but not limited, to the annual and monthly forecast, marketing budget, lead management system, booking report, star reports, and sales meeting minutes
  • Coordinate ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends and related information for the development of new marketing strategies. Make reasonable recommendations to improve potential from various markets.
  • Meet with and entertain clients, some of which will require travel.
  • Initiate preparation of annual sales & marketing plan and execute plans as outlined, critically examining, and adjusting as deemed necessary by current market conditions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Food + Beverage’s impact on the hotel's overall performance; manages the mix of booked business accordingly.
  • Demonstrate community spirit through relationship-building and involvement in local and regional organizations.
  • Lead by example and train sales team members to saturate accounts for maximum results.
  • Participate with the budgeting process for top-line revenue, group with food + beverage mix as well as sales expenses.
  • Maintain awareness of the sales practices of the hotel's competitive set and is a "product expert" when selling against them.
  • Ensure adherence to all sales administrative processes and deadlines, including preparation and submission of reports, budgets, and/or internal communications.
  • Build strong relationships and loyalty with top-producing clients. Identifies and executes up-sell opportunities.
  • Effectively recruit, train and mentor sales team members and foster strong team culture.
  • Plan, organize, lead, and/or participate in hotel meetings including staff meetings, sales meetings, social media meetings, revenue meetings, etc. as part of the hotel’s executive team.
  • Other job-related duties may be assigned by the associate’s supervisor and/or support center team.

QUALIFICATIONS + SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management, Travel/Tourism, Sales/Marketing or similar preferred
  • 5 years of sales management experience in the hospitality industry, minimum 2 years with a luxury property
  • Previous experience as a luxury Hotel Sales Manager with a major luxury hotel brand preferred
  • Minimum two years managing a team of sales managers (including outside/direct sales experience)
  • Experience in hotel and brand marketing
  • Experience or understanding of catering sales required.
